The Breakfast Club near Hoxton Square was buzzing. It was the only restaurant in the neighbourhood that’s open on this Easter Monda, but the casual and friendly atmosphere is surely its major attraction.

The menu is full of greasy delights and as it’s a Bank Holiday, we went for the biggest plates of all – the All American!

Sushi Hiroba was buzzing on the Friday night. Sushi on the conveyor belt looked fresh, probably because the high turnover. Good variety of food. We thought it’s one of the better “affordable” Japanese restaurants, much better than the big chains at least.

One thing – this place is run by Koreans, not Japanese. No going to bitch about it cos food was fine (in the eyes of a foreigner) and service was great!

Trust me we don’t eat this everyday, and we had spinach on the side too!

Dessert was little MaltEaster bunnies. Heard they call him 麥提兔 in HK. So very cute

Had a wonderful time at Miss S and Mr B’s place! Can definitely see a lot of effort and heart in the lovely meal.

Started off with a Minty Pea Noodle Soup, then came a fresh Salmon Nicoise Salad with Herb Risotto.

Main course was Mr B’s special Stuffed Chicken with Mustard Wine Sauce.

Miss S also made a fantastic Tiramisu! A shame that we didn’t take a picture of that!

Wow, the last post was in March 2008! almost 2 years ago!!

Stopped writing cos we know what we like, and have been going back to our favourite places all the time! It would be boring for you to see the same comments and pictures again and again right? But the blogging mood is suddenly back tonight!

We went to Kikuchi near Tottenham Court Road – ordered the same few dishes that we always do at Japanese restaurants, wanted to compare apple to apple!

1. Chawanmushi – Japanese steamed egg

Kikuchi (Left) – Smooth and consistent. Lots of enoki mushrooms and chicken.
Ikeda (Right) – Silky and delicate. A little pot of goodies with chicken, prawn, kamaboko, shitake mushroom and ginkgo nut.

2. Sushi – Tuna, Omlette, Salmon Roe

Kikuchi (Left) – Tuna and salmon roe were super fresh. That piece of egg was HUGE!! But the seaweed was a bit soggy…
Ikeda (Right) – All very fresh too. Nice crunchy seaweed.

3. Prawn Tempura

Kikuchi (Left) – Crunchy batter, fresh prawns. Very good!
Ikeda (Right) – Flaky and crunchy batter, fresh prawns. Pretty presentation, excellent!

Kikuchi is a good. Food is certainly above average. Service was attentive and energetic! One slight problem in ventilation though – it’s pretty stuffy in there!!

However, Ikeda is still in a league of its own…

Easter is not Easter without a piece of great steak (says fatfifi).

Smith of Smithfield Top Floor is another one that we’ve been planning to go for a long long time. Like it a lot cos it’s actually pretty close from home, and the steaks were great!

For those who don’t know, Smithfield is a meat market in central London so logically SOS would be able to source some best, nicely aged beef in town.

We came here for beef, so I started with the Rare Breed Steak Tartare, while Mr W had his favourite Rock Oysters.

The Longhorn Sirloin was more tasty, while the texture Rare Breed Fillet was more delicate. Both fantastic

Been talking about Sushi Hiro with Miss C for ages and the occasion finally came on the Thursday before the long Easter weekend. VERY FRESH, great variety, reasonably priced, one of the best in town (would be even better if it’s really IN TOWN).

But on a Monday night we can only manoeuvre within our neighbourhood – landed at Asadal in Holborn. Lacking creativity after a long day we went for Kimchi Jigae again…
